Overview
Wilson adds another chapter to the Ultra 100. Like the previous generation, this racket packs a 318 gram strung weight and a powerful beam construction. It's also very maneuverable, giving it an appeal that extends from recreational players and weekend warriors all the way to intermediate league players. According to Wilson, this racket's power comes from three strategic enhancements. It starts with less racket twisting at impact (stability), which is achieved by combining a Power Rib construction in the shaft with an integrated Perimeter Weight System in the head. These features are complemented by Sweetspot Channels at 3/9 o'clock which lengthen the cross strings for greater energy return. From the baseline the Ultra 100 feels crisp and lively, and it has enough spin-potential to bring the ball down effectively. Although it lacks the plow through and mass-based pop of a traditionally weighted player's racket, this racket's easy acceleration will help you scramble on defense or crank winners on the run. The speed continues at net where the Ultra 100 comes around very fast, making it great on reaction volleys. This racket also shines on serve where it whips powerfully through contact to deliver easy targeting. With this update, Wilson has created a speedy weapon with user-friendly access to pace and spin. Given its firm construction, Tennis Warehouse recommends using a multifilament or soft co-poly to help with impact shock.
